Rotary International President Ron Burton – All Kentucky Luncheon – September 20, 2013

An all Kentucky Club Luncheon will be held on Friday September 20 at the Griffin Gate Marriott in Lexington at the Rotary International Lexington Zone Institute. The Griffin Gate Marriott Resort and Spa is located at 1800 Newtown Pike (off I-75 Exit 115). The keynote speaker at this luncheon will be Rotary International President Ron Burton of Norman Oklahoma.

Rotarians of District 6740 are encouraged  to consider attending this luncheon. It is a most unusual opportunity for Rotarians in our district to have the Rotary International President visit our district and be able to hear him speak on behalf of Rotary.

Tickets for the luncheon are $20 and can be purchased through the Lexington Rotary Club. Please RSVP for this luncheon by emailing Lexington Rotary’s Executive Director, Peggy Trafton, trafton@rotarylexky.org.  When you email Peggy, please include your name, address, phone number and number of tickets that you are purchasing.  After you RSVP to Peggy, she will correspond with you in regards to tickets, payment and table reservations.  Checks can be made out to the Lexington Rotary Club.  Credit cards will only be accepted for a table of 10 or more

The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a series of fast-paced, interactive, one-day courses offered to refine a Rotarian's leadership skills and increase their base of knowledge in Rotary.

Courses in RLI are informative, topical, interactive and geared toward busy business and professional Rotarians who want to be more effective leaders in their vocations and their clubs. RLI consists of three one day parts. Each RLI session offers all three parts, simultaneously. Each part consists of 6 topics and each topic is lead by a Discussion Leader. Attendees have the opportunity to exchange ideas about the topics and network with the other members of their group.

Important Training Sessions- Future Vision Grant Management

Beginning July 1, 2013 our Rotary Foundation will implement a new grant model to support club and district humanitarian and educational projects. This model has already been tried by about 100 pilot districts in the Rotary world and was called Future Vision. You may have read about it in our Rotarian magazine or heard about it from your club’s participation in the District 6740 Foundation Seminar last fall.

Briefly, the key elements of the new grant model are:

· Two types of grants will be offered – Global grants and District grants

· District grants will allow clubs and districts to address humanitarian needs in their communities and abroad through a block grant coming from the district’s District Designated Fund (50% of District 6740’s giving to the Rotary Foundation in 2010-2011, given back to the district)

· Global grants developed by club(s) or the district for a humanitarian effort with a host partner in another country, can receive matching funds from the Rotary Foundation for a project budget of from $30,000 to $200,000.

· Projects will support one or more of 6 areas of focus:

Ø  Peace and conflict prevention/resolution,

Ø  Disease prevention and treatment,

Ø  Water and sanitation,

Ø  Maternal and child health,

Ø  Basic education and literacy,

Ø  Economic and community development.

· All projects must reflect sustainability

· Responsibility for planning and execution of a project and complete reporting to ensure  stewardship of the funds involved is required.

Reflecting the new grant program, clubs and districts which will participate in Rotary Foundation grants will be required to be qualified. To ensure that clubs will be able to be qualified, several Grant Management seminars have been scheduled throughout D6740 to accommodate clubs and their representatives who will attend. The President, the President-Elect and the Rotary Foundation Chair from the clubs are invited to attend one of these grant Management Seminars and begin the process of qualifying the club.

Grant Management Seminars have been chosen at locations, hopefully convenient for the clubs. The seminars will be held as follows:

February 15, Lexington – Bingham Davis House, 218 East Maxwell Street - (5:00 – 8:00 PM)

February 16, Erlanger – The Colonial Cottage, 3140 Dixie Highway - (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

March 1, London – Laurel County Adult Education, 90 Bennett Circle - (5:00 – 8:00 PM)

March 9, Flemingsburg – Fleming County Hospital, 55 Foundation Drive - (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

March 16, Paintsville – Ramada Inn, 624 James S. Trimble Blvd. – (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

 

Rotary Leadership Institute - February 2nd

This letter is a reminder that the next Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is scheduled for Saturday, February 2 at the Four Points Sheraton in Lexington. The session begins at 8:00 am and ends at 3:30 pm.

If you have need of lodging for Friday night February 1, please contact Martha Riddell (dmriddell@aol.com) as rooms may be available at the Four Points Sheraton.

RLI is geared towards those club members who are considered as future leaders of your club but is also appropriate for anyone who wants to know more about Rotary.  Any Rotarian in our District can attend RLI.

The challenge of many of our clubs is that of moving Club Members into being active Rotarians.

RLI does just that!

Rotarians who attend RLI become much stronger leaders in the club. They become active beyond the club.  RLI graduates attend interclub meetings, assemblies and conferences.

RLI helps to start their thirst for Rotary. For those that go on to become Club Presidents...when they attend President Elect Training, they are ready to take advantage.  They know what questions to ask and they learn a lot more than those attending without attending RLI. 

Sponsoring future club leaders to attend RLI is the best investment you can make in your club's future!

RLI consists of three one day parts.  First time participants attend Part I.  The second time they register for Part II and the third time Part III and graduation.

RC Ashland holds installation of officers

The Rotary Club of Ashland finished up a stellar year on Monday, June 25, with a Club Assembly, induction of new officers, and presentation of awards.

 Norma Meek was presented with the Community Vocational Award for 2011-2012.  Norma’s exemplary and unselfish dedication to community service made her an ideal candidate for this award.

 Rotarian April Perry was presented with the Vocational Service Award for her outstanding commitment to the principles of vocational service by starting a BancOn program for the unbanked.

 Rotarian Bernard O’Nan was awarded the Rotarian of the Year Award for his outstanding service and his commitment to foster Rotary ideals for which our club and Rotary is known. 

President Cheryl Spriggs, President-Elect Vincenzo Fressola, and Past President Sam Harvey were honored with the Paul Harris Memberships.

 Installation of new officers for the year 2012-2013 was conducted.  Continuation of great leadership is evidenced by the commitment of the newly inducted officers.

 During club assembly, newly installed President Vincenzo Fressola led the club through the achievements of the previous year, during which the club held its first major fund-raising event, which allowed the donation of over $13,000 to local charities and Polio Plus.

On July 9, 2012 DG Kathryn Hardman installed Andrea Miller President of the Rotary Club of Stanford as she was symbolically handed the gavel by Morgan Pence. In addition, two members were inducted into the club.

RC Somerset and RC Somerset-Pulaski County install officers and recognizes other leaders

John and Christie Adams hosted the members of RC Somerset and RC Somerset-Pulaski County as both clubs installed new officers in June, 2012.

Congratulations to Past President Wendell Lyon for a successful year as the Somerset Noon Rotary Club’s leader 2011-2012. Wendell left the club in a great position for transition to our new Club President, George Corder.

Congratulations to Ben Robertson, inducted as Somerset Morning Club President. Ben succeeds Past President Lisa Mullins.

During the evening, John Adams was also recognized for his great job serving as our District Governor.

The District 6740 Nominating Committee selected Rotarian John Salyers of the Rotary Club of Florence, Kentucky as District Governor Nominee-designate to serve as District Governor of Rotary District 6740 in Rotary Program Year 2014-15. The committee executed its function on January 28, 2012 and this notice is sent within 36 hours thereof.

Club officers should announce this selection at their next meeting. Please also forward this notification to the Club’s newsletter or bulletin editor for publication.

The participation of 41 Rotarians at the August 27 RLI was the largest attendance yet of an RLI jointly conducted by District 6710 and District 6740 Rotary leaders. This graduating class of 10 Rotarians was also the largest single graduating class. The next RLI session is scheduled for January 28, 2012 in Lexington.

By unanimous vote of those present, Tom Ashford, D6740 was selected to serve as General Chair for the period July 1, 2012 - June 30, 2015. Tom will serve as Vice Chair for this 2011-12 year and additionally as Hospitality Chair for 2011-12.
