RC Middlesboro recognizes a local citizen for service above self

RC Middlesboro has been running a program this year recognizing both youth and others in the community that have demonstrated citizenship and service above self. Last week we recognized Paige Cloud. She teaches developmental math at the SCKETC (community technical college). The reason her story is so interesting is this. She dropped out of high school early and out of pressure from her peers and mother went back school to get her GED, spent one year at South East and then a math degree from UK. She feels that she can relate to these students just out of high school going to college,because she knows the pressures they are dealing with at this age. RC Middlesboro distributes dictionaries

Recently RC Middlesboro distributed approximately 70 dictionaries to the 3rd Graders in the Middlesboro School district. The dictionairies were purchased with funds raised by the club. One of the club's members, Bill Watson, is a retired attorney and poet. He wrote a poem for the children and a copy was placed in each dictionary. While at the school the Rotarians  helped the children to look up several words.

RC Middlesboro recognizes local student

RC Middlesboro has started a new program this year, inviting a junior or senior from the local area that has shown citizenship, service above self, leadership and community effort. Michael Wilson and his mother are pictured here at the Rotary meeting. Michael is in the Pineville first Tee program and has represented that chapter two years in a row out in Pebble Beach. Both years he got to play with the professional golfers on the Senior champions tour. The First Tee encourages a lot of the same virtues that Rotary encourages. Besides his excellent golfing skills, he also excels in school.
