DG Kathryn visits RC Kenton County

During a recent visit to RC Kenton County with DG Kathryn Hardman, funds were given for tornado relief. The club was also awarded their banner from the 2012 year for second in the district for per capita to the foundation and a certificate for participating in polio plus. The club also inducted two new members. Welcome new Rotarians!

President David Hellmich of the RC Lexington Sunrise gave DG Kathryn Hardman the honor of assisting in the induction of four new members during the official visit on August 28. New members Michael Quillen, Kirsten Kegley, DG Gridley and Seth Lawless were joined by their sponsoring members Keith Key, Donna Sloan and Dale Torok. The membership drive was assisted by a successful after-hours social event hosted by the club earlier in the month.

At the Heart of America Zone Institute in Huntsville, Al October 4-7, 2012 District Governor Kathryn Hardman and John enjoyed an evening with Rotary International President Sakuji Tanaka.

DG Kathryn, Youth Exchange host parent Harry Chestnut and Youth Exchange student Guilherme Messon Messari (Brazil) were invited to ring the World Peace Bell following the multi-club meeting of Florence, Kenton, Covington and Campbell in Covington on September 18.

RC Florence Foundation Dinner

On March 29, 2012, the Rotary Clubs located in Northern Kentucky attended a dinner hosted by RC Florence at Turfway Park. Northern Kentucky Rotarians recognized over twelve Paul Harris Fellow foundation gifts of at least $1,000. In addition, four members were inducted into the Paul Harris Society for pledging an annual gift of at least $1,000 to the Annual Programs Fund of the Rotary Foundation.

District Governor John Adams attended the celebration and spoke to the attendees about the Foundation, the status of the District's foundation work, and the expected impact of the Future Vision Plan. Governor Adams congratulated the new inductees and thanked them for their support of the Foundation.

Dictionaries for 3rd Graders! Thank you RC Kenton County!

The Kenton County Rotary Club partnered with The Erlanger-Elsmere School District to distribute dictionaries to the 3rd grade classes at the four elementary schools in the district during the first week of school. This is the first year the club has participated in the dictionary project in which the club members had a first hand experience with the students on this great project and the enthusiasm the students had when receiving their very own dictionary.

RC Kenton County Annual Dinner

The Kenton County Rotary Club held their dinner on Thursday 6/23 at fellow Rotarian Steve Gongola's home. It was a great evening with many awards and recognitions.  Past President Cathy Carleson was awarded the PHF the club won at District Conference for her outstanding year as club president 2010-2011. PDG Robert Ryan presented the PHF to Cathy.

RC Kenton County Awards Scholarships

The Kenton County Rotary Club awarded $4,500 in scholarships to three seniors in the Kenton County area. Lauren Elizabeth Schultz graduate of Dixie Heights High School received the $2,500 scholarship from the club. Lauren plans to attend Hannover College where she will major in International Studies while obtaining a minor in Spanish and Art History.  Harold Lee Thomlinson, graduate of Beechwood High School received a $1,000 scholarship from the club. Harold plans to attend Eastern Kentucky University where he will major in fire protection administration.  Kelly Maria Kleier graduate of Notre Dame Academy received a $1,000 scholarship from the club. She plans to attend Xavier University where she will major in Biology.

Fun, Fellowship and Fundraising in Northern Kentucky!

On June 24th, the Rotary Clubs of Campbell County, Cincinnati, Covington, Florence and Kenton County partnered to raise funds to support ShelterBox. Rotarians enjoyed fellowship, food and drink in the fabulous Steely Library on the campus of Northern Kentucky University. Stan Wall made an informative presentation regarding ShelterBox's mission and worldwide efforts. A fun time was had by all! The event is expected to be held again next year, so watch the calendar for more details!

ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity that delivers emergency shelter, warmth, and dignity to people affected by disaster worldwide.
