District Governor's Letter to the District

Dear Rotarians of District 6740,

I begin my year as District Governor with enthusiasm and a commitment to serve with the Rotary Club Presidents of our District, our Assistant Governors and all those in the district who serve in a leadership role.  We are stewards for the district during our term.

This year’s theme,” Peace Through Service,” is one that I embrace heartily.  Rotary International President Sakuji Tanaka eloquently explains his theme of peace as not only the absence of conflict but as “personal tranquility, happiness in the family, a sense of inner contentment, or a situation of safety where basic human needs are met.  Through service Rotarians bring health safety and human dignity to their own communities and communities around the world.”  Rotarians of District 6740 lay the foundations of peace through their service.

Turning the page on a new year means a look back at the past and a look ahead to the future.  I am especially thankful to our immediate Past District Governor, John Adams, for his dedication and commitment to the district.  John’s leadership saw growth in our district, a continued commitment to the Rotary Foundation and the eradication of Polio, exemplary service to the clubs, the establishment of a tornado relief fund,   and homage to New Generations with the inclusion of his wife Christie and toddler Charlie in multiple club and district events.

I commend PDG John Adams for making every effort possible in the last two years to ”keep me in the loop.”  I also have two wonderful gentlemen who will follow me as District Governors, Jack McAllister and John Salyers.  We have been a team for some time now as we attend Rotary functions such as PETS, District Conferences and meeting with the Youth Exchange students in Otterbein Ohio.  Our “GIS” team (Governors in Succession, as John Adams fondly refers to us) has allowed us to explore ideas beyond our own year of serving as District Governor and to put in place plans and goals for the future.  I believe the team spirit the four of us have garnered will serve the District well, and that this team spirit also embodies Rotary’s vision of developing leadership and planning that is not limited to a one-year vision.

Peace be with you,

Kathryn Hardman
