Rotary Work Days in Joplin

DG John received this email from one of his DG classmates. We thought it should be shared as many have expressed an interest in helping Joplin.
=========================================================================
To Fellow Rotary Class of Governors,
As you know, Joplin, Missouri is recovering from the tornado that ripped through their town. With the assistance of the Joplin Rotary clubs, they have arranged a list of work days, once a month from now through December. These dates are listed below in an email from one of the Joplin Club past presidents. We would welcome any Rotarians from your District to join us on our Rotary workdays.

Thank you.

District Governor Danny Mitchell
District 6110

           My fellow Rotarians,
On behalf of both Joplin clubs, I want to thank everyone who came to our first official Joplin workday on July 30th. We had over 100 Rotarians knocking down damaged houses, sorting debris and moving a clothing distribution center. We feel extremely blessed for our Rotary family!
Our next workday is on Saturday, August 13th. I know it’s really close to our last one, but we had 5 different schools that were destroyed in the tornado—4 in the Joplinpublic system and one private Catholic school. I’m not exactly sure where we will end up, but both school systems need our help before school starts the week of August 15th. It has been estimated that 52% of all Joplin school children were displaced because of the tornado. We would love to make them feel at home in their “new” schools!
If you would like to participate, please contact the Joplin Rotary Tornado Volunteer Projects chair, Valerie Searcy (vsearcy@unitedwayswmosek.org). We will need a final count of how many people we have by August 10th. We will again be supplying lunch.
I’m sorry for the short notice, but things are still really crazy around here. Here is the tentative schedule for future Rotary work days:
September 17th
October 22nd
November 12th
December 3rd
We just can’t thank you enough for all of your kind words, thoughts and prayers. And thank you for helping us to show the rest of Joplin what Service Above Self really means.
Best Regards,
Jenny Hocker
